The Nursery is the most natural setting for all children to learn together. We aim to care for and educate children of all abilities together in order for disability and difference to loose their mystique. New skills can be practised with the support of classmates.
The role model of a more able child is important for the child with additional needs. Language and social skills are often enhanced. The Nursery is continually faced with the need to differentiate the curriculum for children learning at different stages and in different ways.
There will be a balance between child-initiated and adult-directed activity so that the child’s individual needs can be met and they can have opportunities to choose work at their own pace.
In order to address any concerns e.g. feeding, medication, communication or emotionally (fear of their child being left out) we will work closely with parents/carer. We aim to give the parents/carers reassurance and confidence that we offer a service suitable for their child’s needs. Parents/carers of children with additional needs are knowledgeable on particular individual needs; therefore we work closely in partnership with them and explore how we and any outside professionals can provide most effectively for that child.
All of our staff are confident with working with children who have a wide range and different abilities and some hold additional qualifications.
