In our Nursery we operate a Keyperson system, where by one member of staff is responsible for providing individual attention to both the child and the parent.
Having Keypersons provides an opportunity to create closeness with children and parents, and through this closeness carers can understand and help to meet the child’s needs, which is vital if the child is to gain anything positive from their Nursery experience.
Keypersons engage in many 1 to 1 interactions with the child e.g feeding, changing young children. The children will be encouraged to relate to all carers eventually, not just their Keyperson as they need the ability to develop relationships easily with other adults without becoming dependent on just one./p>
The keyperson will be responsible for settling the child into the Nursery setting and will for the majority of the time be present and either receive or hand over the child at the beginning or end of the day
You are the keyperson’s most important guide to your child’s needs and sensitivities so take time to explain their routines, fears, comforters, toys. Try to remember to offer tips for fun and reassurance as well as the practicalities of care, as this will help the Keyperson form a happy bond with your child, allowing your child to feel safe and secure without you.
Any information about your child should be passed on to your child’s Key person and she/he will pass on information to you about your child’s day.
The Keyperson system is used in the Nursery as it plays a crucial part in creating and maintaining good working relations with parents.
